Can FastPatch Concrete Repair or FastPatch Pourable Asphalt Repair be extended to increase more volume per kit?

Yes. Kits can be extended with 1-gal (3.78-L) of CLEAN & DRY, Round Pea Gravel (3/8", 9.5mm) at time of mixing, which can increase yield by much as 30%. Store gravel between 65-75°F (18-25°C). FastPatch Gravel is available or you can locally source CLEAN & DRY gravel. Gravel sold in plastic bags contains a lot of moisture and must be CLEAN and DRY before use. When extending with gravel, a minimum repair depth of 1/2" (12.5mm) is required. Temperature of gravel can speed up or slow down cure. See FAQ on temperature range.

Is a bond agent or primer required?

That depends on the application and product. Bonding agents reinforce the repair area and help promote the adhesion of the repair material. FastPatch DPR Kits are typically applied without a bonding agent since the first layer in the repair area is very fluid and when it cures it has excellent adhesion. The EJC Sealant product typically require a bonding agent to reinforce the joint walls and maximize the movement capabilities under thermal movement in exterior joints.

Is there a maximum thickness or depth when using FastPatch repair materials?

No limitation in final thickness. We recommend installing FastPatch in 2-4 inch (5-10cm) layers (lifts) to make sure there are no voids - for a solid repair. FastPatch bonds to itself, so layers can be applied either before after it has cured. The final layer, is leveled with a trowel or board to the surrounding surface before applying topping sand.

Are FastPatch repairs slippery?

FastPatch is not slippery when topping sand is applied. Topping sand is always recommended to be applied evenly, and to refusal, immediately after installing FastPatch to maximize the traction and blend the repair into the surrounding area.

Is there a minimum temperature range that FastPatch requires for use?

During application, there are no specific temperature restrictions with FastPatch. For best results, store FastPatch between 65-75°F (18-25°C) for a minimum of 24 hours before use, and store it in the shade before use. For FastPatch DPR Kits, at temperatures below 55°F (12°C), we recommend up to one bottle of "KICKER" which will accelerate the set time. Warm temperatures will accelerate set time and cold temperatures slow it down. For example, set time at 40F (10C) is 40 minutes with a "KICKER" and 80 minutes without. Note: Center of the repair area will cure faster than the sides in cooler conditions. Also, gravel temperature can extend or slow down set time, just like surface temperature. Store gravel between 65-75°F (18-25°C).

What tools will I need to install FastPatch Kits?

CLEAN and DRY the repair area with a high velocity and CFM blower (250 MPH / 700 CFM) blower or dry compressed air (120 CFM / 90 psi). Use a propane field torch to DRY area if moisture is present.

1/2 in. Corded drill. Mud mixer drills work very well.

Personal protection — safety glasses, skin protection, and gloves.

Towels for cleaning mixer and tools.

Optional: Tape for protecting edges of repair area. Broom or blower for clean-up.

How do I clean tools after installing FastPatch?

Clean tools immediately after use by wiping clean with a dry rag. To remove any remaining film, immediately follow with a liquid tool cleaner.

General

How long has FastPatch been around?

FastPatch has been in service on major highways for over a decade. The product is being used around the world (e.g., USA, Australia, China, South America, Canada, Mexico, UK) to repair airports, highways, roadways, bridges, railroads, and other various applications.

How is FastPatch applied?

FastPatch is packaged in cartridges, kits, drums, and totes. Choose the package type that matches the accessibility of the repair area, and minimize the waste or handling of multiple packages. For example, we have a 3-Gal (.20 cu/ft.) FastPatch DPR Kit available, so you can use it for a smaller repair instead of wasting half of a 5-Gal Kit (.40 cu/ft.)

How long will FastPatch last?

When installed properly, FastPatch will last longer than the life of the pavement. The quality of surface preparation and solidness of the pavement base directly related to the longevity of the repair.

What are the common applications of FastPatch?

Broken concrete and asphalt, spalls, potholes, joints, driveways, highways, bridge decks, parking lots, cracked slab repairs, ramps and loading docks, warehouse floors, post anchors, and trip hazards.

Where has FastPatch been approved by government agencies?

Applications

I want to repair concrete and asphalt. Can I do that with FastPatch?

Yes. FastPatch DPR Kit can be used for both distressed concrete and aspahlt pavement repairs. The FasPatch kit comes with colored topping sand appropriate to the pavement type being repaired. FastPatch can also be machine dispensed from drums or totes to repair cracks, joints, and spalls.

I want to fill a joint to seal it and keep water out. Which product do I use?

EJC-100 with PolyPrime 350 is the best combination to handle exterior joint movement and seal it from water. TIP: Use topping sand that blends with the surrounding surface. Refer to guidelines on proper preparation and installation techniques.

Do you have a product that can fill joints on a slope or vertical?

Yes. For slope grade application, select the SG version of EJC-100. For vertical joints, try the EJC-NS. For ramps, use the FastPatch DPR Kit and extend it with dry, clean sand until the consistency is correct for the slope.

Is FastPatch waterproof or chemically resistant?

Yes, it is waterproof and fluid-proof from common fluids. Chemicals such as salts, dilute acids and bases, gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, antifreeze, or lubricating oils, and most solvents.

Can FastPatch be used on large areas subjected to chemical spills?

Yes. The surface must be cleaned to remove the contamination and thoroughly dried before installing FastPatch. FastPatch will protect surface from cooking oil, oil dripping from cars, fuel, chemical, and waste spillage.

Does FastPatch protect water erosion of asphalt?

Yes. Asphalt deteriorates quickly with repetitive water runoff found at car washes, outside restaurant kitchens, and with landscape irrigation. Erosion of asphalt is stopped when it is protected with FastPatch.

Can FastPatch repairs be used before placing hot asphalt overlays?

FastPatch can be used to repair wide cracks, raveling, and alligatoring in asphalt prior to overlaying, chip sealing, slurrying, or seal coating.

Can FastPatch repairs be made at an edge where a form is required?

Yes. First, prepare the area to be repaired and create a form board by wrapping in plastic. Secure form board and install FastPatch. Remove form board after FastPatch has cured and well bonded to repair area.

What pavement damage can FastPatch not repair?

Pavement damaged from a non-structural sub-base are not recommended for permanent repairs. Repairs over non-compacted base material or continuously moving areas are only temporary and the problem will need to be addressed for before a repair will be permanent. Severe movement or continuous water undermining the pavement (e.g., irrigation, leaking water line, etc.) will prevent a long term successful repair.
